Community Service: HeritageFest

Singapore HeritageFest 2010

In August, we'll be organising another community service activity for the club. This time, we'll be helping out in HeritageFest 2010. If you're interested to be a student helper in this event, please contact me @ 81948356 and we shall go help out as a club. =) Read on to know more about the event and what we will be doing.

Period: 11th-22nd Aug 2010
*Note The time period above is when HeritageFest 2010 will be held. It does not mean we have to help out every single day in this period.

Singapore HeritageFest is an annual festival organised by National Heritage Board to celebrate Singapore's cultural diversity.
"The highlights of the 12-day festival include a festival hub showcasing world cultures through traditional costumes, five heartland malls, heritage bus tours and a Festival Finale. The finale from 20 to 22 August will feature four mega concerts, art performances from New Citizens, culinary demonstrations, entertaining children’s programmes in the museums, roving performers, game masters, buskers and characters from the past and many more.
For more information on the festival, visit us at www.heritagefest.sg
SHF volunteers may be asked to help out in one or a few of the SHF activities - such as explainers for the exhibitions in the festival hubs and ambassadors in their festival finale.

The actual day that we'll be helping out is not confirmed yet, cause we have to see the number of people who are interested first before we apply as a club. After we apply, they will assigned us a day. I'll update more about it when I get more info on it.

The torch relay run will travel through Singapore for six days in August, and SP will be the final venue before the official opening ceremony at Marina Bay."

Quoted from SP Website
Details
Date: 12 August 2010
Time: 5pm-10pm

"What will be done:
- The Olympic Torch is coming to SP through Gate 8, pass the car park, pass T11, T12 and into the Plaza area outside the Auditorium.
- We need to form a welcome party along the sides of the road.
- Every 4 students will be given a 1metre space along both sides of the road. So please register in multiples of 4.
- You may do anything you wish to jazz up the event. Be creative ! (For example, you can hold a banner that says "xxx Club welcomes the Olympic Flame to Singapore Poly", or dress up in mascots and dance, or play some musical instrument.)
- The idea is to make the whole event like a carnival.
- The whole route is 600metres long, and we need 2,400 students to be part of the welcome party.
- Once the Olympic Torch passes you, you then join the back of the convoy and follow them to the Plaza area.
- Participants receive a goodie bag which consists of a t-shirt, poncho, food vouchers etc.

Community Service Activities (UPDATED)

Hi,

SPG is organising another community service on Wednesday, 18 August 2010 (during YOG break). It will be a half-day mangrove planting/salvaging activity in Sungei Buloh (in a collaboration with National Parks) from 1pm-5pm. It is a very good chance to increase the bonding between members, as well as to contribute our part to the nature. Due to some changes of the policy and nature of the activity, I can't be sure what type of CCA point that will be awarded to participants or whether comm srvc hour will be awarded. Nevertheless, rest assured that CCA points will be awarded. Refreshment and transportation will be provided as well.

If you are interested, please write your name, school and admin number on the white board in the club house. But please take note that after you have registered your name, you MUST NOT back out from the activity as your name will be included as representative from Singapore Polytechnic and SEEE. I'm glad that SPG is given a chance to be able to participate in this event as SP representative, and I really hope that you can take part in this community service activity. =)

And just for reminder, please check the post (click here) regarding the upcoming community service project at FoodHeart, and please contact the number listed on that post if you are interested. CCA Points will be awarded as well.

Leave a message in the tagboard if you have any questions regarding these projects. Thank you very much and see you all soon! =)
